When loss of focus invades the creative spirit

I've always been a focused person.  Not necessarily in my thinking of "everyday" stuff (I'm quite scattered regarding those)...but with crafts, I never used to have a major problem.  I've been cross-stitching for over 25 years, and for the most part, getting most pieces stitched.  Not framed, necessarily, but the bulk of the work done.  Same with crocheting.  I've done many afghans over the years, doilies to make my granny proud, and various other crafts.

But when it comes to the internet--I become totally ADD.  I go online, with the intent to read a few stitching blogs.  Click a couple of sites off *their* blogs, and now I'm in quilt land.  Wonderful!  I'm amazed at the beautiful quilts, and I'm all geared up to begin one myself.
Click a few more links...voila, I'm in miniature land.  I am so inspired by what I see, and I want to try my hand at making itty-bitty furniture...and dolls. Never mind that my eyesight isn't what it used to be!
Click, click...and now I'm back to cross stitch blogs.
I'm exhausted!
I've lost my steam.
It takes all my effort to pry my fingers off the keyboard, pick up my stitching, and focus.  At this rate, I will never have my Christmas stitching done!

I will set my sights (and energy) on smaller projects.  I have a little Bent Creek piece called "Winter" that will probably only take me a couple of days to finish.
And...I'm beginning to make a dent in my UFOs!
Another finished piece--The Great Horned Owl, from "Eagles and Owls" by Cross My Heart
Let me tell you, *never* again.  Over 60 colours, blends of browns, grays.  Hardly a few stitches in the same area, then colour change. Next time I get the urge to do "nature", I'll get me head examined, instead!

  1. Congrats on your finish! Oooohhhh... he is such a beauty though! I feel like I could reach out and touch his feathers :^) After that finish a small "quick fix" (as we call it) will be just what the doctor ordered, I'm sure.

  7. That owl is beautiful!

I love to cross stitch. I used to feel guilty about not finishing projects until I accepted the fact that I stitch when I feel like it because it makes me happy. It doesn't matter if I ever finish anything, because it relaxes me and puts me in a good mood.

  15. Wow! High Five on your owl. It's gorgeous.
I hear you about needing to pry your fingers off the keyboard. Blogland is addicting and one blog leads to another, and another, and another.
    Cheers, jj

  22. Hi sweetie!
First, thanks for joining me at Yaya Chique and playing my 12 Days of Christmas Give-a-Ways! Keep playing, because there is even more to come!

Yeppers, this blog world can really sap the energy out of ya, and you become so over stimulated that one has trouble focusing! I am sure it happens to a lot of people!

I wish I had the patience to cross-stitch...but love what you do! xo...deb
